Chapter Twenty-Nine
It didnât take long for the carriages to arrive back at the academy. Well, truth be told, it still took somewhere around four hours to get there, from the time that Danny woke up, but the time flew by in a blur. On the trip out, he had been focused on soaking in every single detail possible. Now, on the way back, he found his mind conflicted. Part of him wanted to get back to the steady routine of academy life, the other part of him rather longed for the chaos and the excitement of being on the road.
âOh, well,â Danny reminded himself. âThatâs what weâre training for. I just have to stick with it.â
The carriages finally rumbled back up to the academy doors, and the students all shakily climbed out. They had been in the carriage for over twenty-four hours, and were quite shaken up from all the jostling about. Tess waved at Danny and stumbled up the stairs while Margot waved at him and did the same. Danny took down his own suitcase and quickly walked up into the Great Hall where he sighed and looked about the area. He slowly drew in a deep breath then smiled.
It was good to be home.
He quickly walked back to his room and tossed his suitcase onto the bed then flopped down next to it. It felt good after a night of sleeping on the rough carriage bench, and he didnât move for several long moments. Finally, though, he forced himself back to his feet, knowing that he had things that needed to be done. He wasnât required to go to classes that day (after all, they hadnât originally planned on getting back for a full day longer), which meant that his schedule was open.
And that meant that he needed to pay a visit to Isa.
As soon as he felt up to the walk, he rose from his bed, changed into a better set of clothing, then struck out for the Research Wing. He felt a little nervous about venturing there again, after what had happened the last time he had entered, but he had to see his friend. When he came to the doors of the wing, he found them propped open, and carefully stepped through.
On the other side, he found a simple hall with all the ordinary doors branching off that you might expect. There were no guards, which he had been half-expecting. No one showed up to throw him in prison, no one started demanding why he dared show his face. Feeling a bit better, he walked down the hall, looking for the list of rooms.
He soon found the same sign that he had seen when tracking the werewolf, and found an arrow pointing deeper into the wing labeled âmedical.â He followed it quickly enough, and soon came to a brightly-lit area where a handful of mages in long, white outfits strode back and forth. One of them, a nurse, caught sight of Danny and walked over.
âCan I help you?â she asked quietly.
